Professional Fishing Guide based in Durban South Africa
An outdoors person who loves, respects, admires nature and Gods creation with a passion, Mike has been fishing since the age of 7yrs old where he started in Durban harbour. With a special love for animals, especially fish and birds, Mike collected Tropical marine fish and kept an aquarium for many years, which he says taught him a lot about fish behavior. Mike is in his sanctuary when out on the water surrounded by nature, away from the hustle and bustle, where he feels close to God and can talk with him. |
With over 40 years of fishing experience in various disciplines, and a real passion for fishing, Mike represented his Province (Kwa Zulu Natal) for several years in the Fly Fishing Team. Mike was one of the pioneers of Saltwater Fly Fishing in South Africa and started many years ago when people still looked at you in a strange way. Mike represented Kwa Zulu Natal for several years in competition Fly Fishing and fished the professional Bass circuit for a few years, nowadays Mike fishes very few tournaments but does enjoy a good Marlin tournament for fun and currently is Pro Staff for Rapala/Shimano in South Africa. Adopting Catch & Release some 20yrs ago Mike has improved this to Catch, Photo, Release which he calls CPR and enforces this on his fishing adventures whilst educating the public on this. With a lot of time spent on the water, Mike has a lot of Knowledge, Skill and Experience to offer in various disciplines, spends well over 150 days a year fishing and is always experimenting, developing, improving and trying new things. |
Mike is very technical and articulate and an extremely active and competent angler, a regularly published author in several of South Africa's leading fishing magazines in addition to some prominent local and international websites. Always offering advice and assistance to fellow anglers, Mikes real specialties are Billfish, Tuna, Saltwater & Freshwater Game Fish, Light Tackle, Artificial Lures and Fly Fishing.
A highly competent and qualified Skipper (Captain) with many years and hours of experience, who loves to share his passion for fishing and nature with others and has an extremely soft spot for Children.
As a cancer survivor, and living with diabetes type 2 Mike has come to understand the real meaning of what is important in life. Loves spending time with his wife, partner and best friend Megan and his family which he loves so dearly.
A God fearing and compassionate man who is an avid bird lover and , who resides in Durban with his family, and has a really close relationship with his 2 Macaws. |
